The Punta del Cobre project by Rockfield Exploration spans 2,720 hectares in the Chilean Atacama area, 20 km to the west of Tierra Amarilla town. The project’s paved road leads to Tierra Amarilla, from where a gravel road travels the final distance to the site.
The Punta del Cobre belt is located in a marine carbonate back-arc basin and an Early Cretaceous continental volcanic arc. The interface of volcanic rocks and the volcaniclastic rocks that cover them with tectonic structures governs mineralisation.
After conducting research at the location, Rockfield Exploration found multiple Cu-Au deposits that are rich in iron oxide. According to our estimates, there are about 300 million tonnes of mineable reserves with a grade of 0.21 g/t gold, 3.8 g/t silver, and 0.45% copper.
Vein deposits and composite deposits are the two different categories into which the deposits can be divided. While the larger, composite deposits are found within volcano-sedimentary periods, closely linked to significant orogen-parallel fault systems, vein deposits are typically hosted by intrusive rocks.
In order to continue exploring after mineral veins were found, Rockfield Exploration recently started talks to buy the acreage next to the current site.
