The 1,880 hectare Paquisha project by Rockfield Exploration is located 15 kilometres east of the town of Paquisha in the Ecuadorian province of Zamora-Chinchipe. There is a paved road that leads to the location within 5 km, and a gravel road that covers the remaining distance.
The site is roughly 20 kilometres south of Fruta del Norte, the largest gold mine in operation in the nation, and there are reported to be significant gold reserves in the area. According to Rockfield explorations initial exploratory efforts, there are 3.6 million ounces of mineable gold reserves at a grade of 8.71 grammes per tonne.
Crystalline quartz, manganese carbonates, calcite, barite, marcasite, and pyrite make up the site’s mineralogy. Tetrahedrite and silver sulphosalts are also present in trace amounts. An estimated 35% of the gold is trapped in sulphides in this moderately refractory mineralisation.
Presently, Rockfield Exploration is in talks with a number of potential partners to conduct the extraction of the found deposits as well as the construction of the necessary infrastructure to support the project.
